The devil has come to roost at the Shotgun Players' Ashby Stage, and the pairing is indeed delicious. Faust Part One is a loose interpretation of the first half of Goethe's famous tragedy, and it follows a stoic scientist who bargains with the devil for a reason to live; the devil in turn presents him with the love of an innocent girl. The adaptation, however, distills Faust to its essential core, and has a breathtakingly minimalist presentation to match: the actors are fantastic, the dialogue is enthralling, and even the set is starkly beautiful. Truly, the devil and his dealings have never been so appealing.
