Making Theatre Accessible
to Everyone
It’s not enough to create
exceptional theatre; we’re also committed to making a difference
in our community. Cuts to arts education and the high cost of
tickets often mean that only a select few are able to share theatre
– an experience that we believe is transformative and absolutely
essential. We want to change that.
For over 20 years, we have been donating tickets to students,
senior groups, and folks who benefit from the services of local
food banks, foster care centers, and other community service organizations.
At our most recent annual fundraiser Sassafras, we raised nearly
$25,000 to support this effort — enough to give
away 1200 tickets to our current season.
Here are a few of the organizations we have worked with through
our Make a Difference Campaign:
“On behalf of the students
who were wowed by Sunday's performance of God’s Plot,
I want to thank you. THEY LOVED IT.” — Paul S.,
Richmond Youth Media
“It's wonderful to see young people experiencing live performance,
maybe for the first time - to see them connect to something that
happens in real time right in front of them. As frequent theatergoers,
we sometimes take for granted just how powerful it can be to witness
people up there on the stage, just a few feet away from you, acting
out a story. Helping to generate the power of that experience
- that is why we give to the Make a Difference Campaign.”
— Joe M., Board Member
“We wanted to thank you so much for the tickets and the
accommodations tonight! Our group loved the show and we can't
wait to hear about your next season. Thanks a million times.”
— Alona B., Up Next Bay Area
“Last night the Ashby Stage was packed with students who
loved the play. Phaedra's kiss completely took the community college
students around me by surprise. I imagine it was like being back
in Greece when the original came out – the unvarnished reaction.”
— Paul H., patron
This bold initiative cannot succeed
without your help! Please
donate to our Make a Difference Campaign so we can continue
to work with groups in our community that have limited or no experience
with the intrinsic value of live theatre.
Do you know a teacher? A social worker? A community organizer?
Are you involved with any local schools, camps, or community centers
that could benefit from a free night of theatre? We welcome your
suggestions! Please contact [email protected]
