              Variations
              On a Theme
Beardo is exactly how I like my musicals--edgy,
a little twisted and thoroughly enjoyable.
I will admit I'm not really big on musical theatre.
Sorry, I know. I don't know what to tell you.
However, there are exceptions. Take last year when
I stood in line TWICE to finally get in to see Three Penny Opera
at Shotgun. I went because I'm a big fan of Brecht, but I was thrilled
by the inventive and energized production. So when Shotgun announced
they were doing another musical this year...well, I decided, if
it's a Shotgun production, I don't want to miss it, 'cause, well,
              see my first sentence.
First and foremost let me remind you, my dear reader,
that this is not a review. I am not a reviewer. I am a playwright
who goes to see plays. If you'd like a professional review of Beardo,
              I recommend Sam
              Hurwitt's take.
I will say that I had an awesome time. It was tongue-in-cheek
theatricality, irreverent and just plain fun. And I loved the set
design and staging, bravo. And a huge bravo to the cast and crew
of Beardo. Thanks for the exhilarating evening of theatre.

Beardo has been extended to May 1st, but
its shows are quickly selling out. And I have a feeling there will
be long lines of people trying to get on the standby list the closer
              we get to May 1st.
